System Engineer

Squiz are the architects of one of the most popular enterprise class Content Management Systems in Australia, MySource Matrix. We work with a range of dynamic Open Source technologies and provide expertise and services to a number of high profile government and private sector clients both interstate and overseas. Our employees have a passion for the web and for how technology can positively impact on organisations – if you share this passion we’d like to hear from you...

We are looking for a skilled system administrator with excellent planning, problem solving and communication skills to join the team. In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Designing hosting environments to meet project specific performance, security and uptime requirements.
  • Consulting with clients on the design of their environment with their IT limitations (e.g. budget concerns, commitment to existing infrastructure or security requirements).
  • Creating and maintaining written materials detailing the specifics of each environment.
  • Benchmarking each environment to confirm its suitability and limitations, and report accordingly.
  • Project managing the delivery of the agreed environment with the help of the Squiz System Administration team.

Our clients range from large Government departments, to Universities, to various private sector organizations and you will be expected to manage projects across these varied environments.

The technologies we primarily use include:

  • Apache
  • Squid
  • PHP and various bash scripts
  • Linux (Debian, RHEL and Suse)
  • Solaris (9 and 10)
  • PostgreSQL (and Slony) and Oracle

You will be expected to design solutions using these tools so you must understand their capabilities, limitations and how they may configured.

The position requires:

  • Occasional short-trip travel (primarily to our regional offices)
  • An Australian passport as we will need to have you security cleared
  • A “hands-on” attitude
  • A responsible and professional personality (but preferably with a sense of humour)
If this sounds like something you can dig your teeth into, apply now.
