Squiz Q&A with Account Director, Jamie Sharp

Tags:Squiz, Culture

This week we caught up with Jamie Sharp, one of Squiz UK's Account Directors, about her dreams of being an astronaut, strong coffee and her 10 years in digital.

Squiz: In which office are you based Jamie?

Sharp: London.

How long have you been at Squiz?

Almost 2 years now.

So how did you end up at Squiz?

I had been working in what I thought was digital for 8 years and wanted to up my tech knowledge, as I really wanted to make my understanding of the technology that my clients were using more robust, as well as gather operational experience. When the role came up, I could see that it was a hybrid of the client relationship work that I’d been doing before, coupled with the technical and operational elements, which was ideal.

What does an average day look like for you?

There is no such thing as an average day! I always have lots of plans of things that I want to do, but every day generally changes based on what comes up with clients and updates from other offices – I very rarely am able to just get on with what I’d originally planned to do!

What do you love about your role?

It’s a great mix of being really autonomous and being a part of an organisation/team with lots of support. I am able make strategic decisions and make calls about work on the accounts that I manage, but rely on others for advice and support, too. We also get to work with some amazing brands and help drive what they’re doing digitally, which is cool, too.

What's helped you to get here?

Teamwork makes the dream work – that is all.

Is there any advice that you’d give anyone who wanted to follow a similar path?

Try not be fazed by anything. Throughout the course of my career, it’s been up and down and I’ve constantly been pulled in many directions all at once. However, in the end, everything comes together in the end, so take everything in your stride.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be an astronaut for a long time and then realised that that was unrealistic! I still love space, though.

What one thing do you wish you had?

I wish that I could clone most of our technical team! That would be great, as they’re awesome.

When you’re not engrossed in the world of Squiz, where would you most like to be?

I would like to be, for a tenuous reason, at one of Squiz Australia’s office so that I can be on the beach! The ‘real Bondi’ (one of Squiz London’s meeting rooms is called Bondi).

Cats or dogs?

Cats. I like both, but cats.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee – strong.

Summer or winter?

Winter, I don’t like the heat.

Wine or beer?

Wine every time, all day long.

Town or country?

Good question, town, I think.

Finally, why Squiz?

There are loads of amazing people that are really passionate across lots of disciplines. We’ve got a huge amount of coverage and, because of it, are a truly holistic agency – that makes us really unique and useful to our clients.

Jamie will be tweeting her week at work at @lifeatsquiz from 15-19 August - follow along to see what she gets up to during the week.
