This week, we caught up with Arkadiusz Chatys, one of Squiz’s Junior Front End Developers in our Szczecin’s office, Poland.
Squiz: How long have been working for Squiz?
Chatys: It's my 6th month at Squiz, but I already feel like I’ve known everyone for much longer!
Did you attend university?
I'm currently a student of West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. It's my 3rd year and I’m studying computer science.
What do you get up to on an average day?
I always start my day with a coffee and quick look at Medium articles to learn something new. Working closely with the Squiz office in London, I'm mostly responsible for implementing new front-end solutions for our clients' websites. So far I’ve spent most of my time having fun with the websites of different universities in the UK and learning new, exciting things.
What challenges you?
Appreciation for my own life and what I already have is the key to happiness for me, but, at the same time, I have to keep pushing forward and not settle into my comfort zone. Finding a balance between these two things is the biggest challenge that I'm dealing with at the moment.
What’s something you’ve done that you’re really proud of in your career?
Each time I finish a specific project I do a sort of self-review of my work, thinking of the skills I need to improve for future projects. I’m proud of still having this enthusiasm inside of me that tells me to improve myself - I hope I will always have the same passion for this work.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Squiz?
People and the office. I love how this office helps people to connect with each other. Through events after work, playing table tennis during lunch and having a big open space to work in. Secondly, it’s the vibe here. People are kind, talented and really funny! It's the same with people in the UK office, which I’ve had the opportunity to visit. It's also a really satisfying feeling that you actually have an impact on the products that you build.
What tech development are you excited about right now?
What was your dream job when you were young?
Every young boy wants to be a fireman one day, right? However, since I was 11, I wanted to be a graphic designer. I pretty much made my dream come true, but it wasn't as fun as I expected it to be. I much rather design as a hobby when I need to relax and clear my mind.
Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I'm a football freak. I could watch the English Premier League all of the time! I've been a fan of Liverpool FC since 2003, which puts me at risk of being laughed at every time they slip (which it’s often these days). I try to travel as much as I can, as it really makes me feel fulfilled. I’ve also been recording weddings, adverts and video clips for music artists for few years now, just as a hobby.
Tell us something funny that’s happened to you at work.
Almost every Friday Open Mic is 20 minutes of laughing - it spreads really good vibes across the office. I can't think of one specific situation right now, but as I'm looking forward to my first Squiz Weekend Away camp, I hope there will be at least dozen funny stories to tell!
Arkadiusz will be tweeting his week at work at @lifeatsquiz from 12 September to 16 September. Follow along to see what he gets up to on a daily basis in Szczecin!
