Squiz Q&A with Callum Loh, Systems Support Engineer - team CRU

This week, we caught up with Callum Loh, a member of our ‘CRU team’ based in Tasmania, Australia.

Squiz: In which office are you based?

Loh: I’m based in the brand new Hobart office.

How long have you been a part of the Squiz family?

Since April last year, so just over 19 months.

What was your path that got you here?

Before Squiz, I worked in IT Support in schools down here in Hobart.

What does the CRU team do?

The CRU team fix! Any problems or incidents our clients report, the CRU team will sort. Along with that, we support clients with lots of requests for help and respond to monitoring alerts - our Global CRU team are available 24/7, 365 days of the year.

What do you get up to on an average day?

Each day is different in CRU. Some days we’ll be working on an internal project that’ll help make work at Squiz easier and then, 10 minutes later, we could be looking at a client’s site examining problems with a paint layout. That's what keeps it fresh and exciting.

What do you love most about working at Squiz?

Definitely the people and the environment. The CRU team is the best group of people I’ve worked with and it’s awesome coming into work each day to work with them.

What's it like in the Hobart office?

We’ve got an amazing group of people down here who are a blast to work with. Along with that, the new office is awesome! We’re just getting some of our branding up, as we only moved in a couple of weeks ago, so I’ll make sure to show off the office during my tweets!

What motivates you?Learning new things, which makes CRU the ideal place to be. Everyday I learn something new about a piece of technology or a processes that I’ve not touched before. It’s great fun and very rewarding.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I kept it down to earth and wanted to be an astronaut! As I grew up, I lost interest in being that, which I bet my parents are thankful for.

When you’re not being a full-time Squizzer, where do you most like to be?

Hanging out with my two best mates, whether it be at the pub or on a drive to the middle of nowhere. We’re thick as thieves.

What one thing do you wish you had (skill, thing, magic power or other)?

I wish I didn’t have to sleep! There’s not enough time in the day to get all of life’s adventures completed.

Tell us something random about you.

I have an identical twin brother who also works at Squiz in the Hosting team - people say that we are impossible to tell apart.

Finally, why Squiz? After I found out how much fun my brother, James, was having at Squiz, I knew I’d love it over here too. When the opportunity arose, I applied and have never looked back!

Callum will be tweeting his week at @lifeatsquiz between 12-16 December - follow along to see what he gets up to during the week.
