Squiz Q&A with Talent Acquisition Manager, Maia Williams

This week, we caught up with Maia Williams, Squiz UK's Talent Acquisition Manager on food, work and fun!

Squiz: In which office are you based Maia?

Williams: London

How long have you been at Squiz?

Just coming up to 2 and a half years.

What's a Talent Acquisition Manager doing at a place like Squiz?

I’m responsible for sourcing candidates for all roles at the Squiz London office, so finding the next great hire for Squiz and taking them through the interview process, onboarding and helping them to settle into life as a Squizzer.

What does that look like on a day-to-day basis?

Varied! It can range from sourcing candidates, to screening calls and face-to-face interviews, to working with the team on new recruitment projects and initiatives.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love being involved at the early stage of someone’s career at Squiz. Searching out and finding new talent, then seeing them through their journey to becoming a new member of the team is great. Where it’s really rewarding, though, is seeing how people develop once they’ve joined – from being their very first point of contact with the company through to seeing them go on, succeed and go on to bigger and better things is very satisfying.

What's helped you to get to where you are today?

Hard work, determination and keeping an eye on what’s going on in the wider world. The tech industry can be a challenging place to work sometimes, especially as it’s constantly changing and developing, so it’s important to have an understanding of it and what Squiz needs to be able to find the right people.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a film director – which makes being on this side of the interview a little bit weird!

What one skill do you wish you had?

I don’t know why, but banjo just popped into my head! I’d love to be able to play a musical instrument, but piano – don’t buy me a banjo, please!

What is your favourite thing in the whole world?

I know this is going to sound really corny and mumsy, but it has to be my baby daughter. She’s the best.

Cats or dogs?

I have 2 of each! Errr, dogs! Sorry cats…

Coffee or tea?

Summer or winter?

Summer – like there’s a choice.

Wine or beer?

Wine – come on!

Tottenham or Arsenal?

I’m sorry, what was that first word that you said?

Finally, why Squiz?

Because it’s great to be working at a company that’s on the cutting edge. We’re constantly looking into the future and being part of a company that’s striving for the next great thing is a really exciting place to be.

Maia will be tweeting her week at work at @lifeatsquiz from 11-15 July - follow along to see what she gets up to during the week.
