Squiz Q&A with Web Solutions Consultant, Andrew Byrne
This week, we caught up with Andrew Byrne, Web Solutions Consultant in ACT, Australia.
Squiz: When did you join us at Squiz?
Byrne: I joined Squiz about 4 years ago in 2012.
What did you do before that led to you working for Squiz in Canberra?
A little bit of everything: I worked as a chef, sold Hi-Fi's, was an electronics technician, as well as a bit of graphic and web design.
On an average day, what do you get up to?
Consulting and actively building awesome digital platforms for our clients. Because we work with so many different organisations, you never really know what project will come next or what they'll need doing.
What’s great about being a Web Solutions Consultant?
The people are cool, the jobs are challenging and the systems that we build are enterprise.
In your journey here, what would you say were your key achievements that led you here?
Probably getting out of bed each morning! There are plenty of mountains that we climb throughout many stages of our lives, so that's a tough one.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to follow a similar path?
Stay in school kids.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
One of the pilots of Voltron [from the US TV series of the mid-80s: Voltron: Defender of the Universe].
What one thing do you wish you had (skill, thing or other)?
X-ray vision, creepy...
When you’re not in the office, where do you most like being?
Riding a bike, walking, or in front of a computer.
Cats or dogs?
Ha! Nope, I have kids!
Footy, cricket, rugby or other?
Broom Ball, look it up [think ice hockey and field hockey combined: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broomball] and I’m from Canberra, so Cycling.
Coffee or tea?
Summer or winter?
Wine or beer?
Town or country?
Finally, why Squiz?
Squiz is an amazing place where your voice can be heard. The opportunity to discover, learn and create keeps me coming back to push myself (and our clients) to create something special everyday. That and my partner won’t let me stay at home during the day.
Andrew will be tweeting his week at work at @lifeatsquiz from 29-August to 2-September - follow along to see what goes on during the week.
